Over the past year, the president of Bay of Quinte Conference of the United Church of Canada, Wanda Stride, visited the 8 presbyteries and engaged them in conversation about the life and character of each presbytery over the past decades. The notes that she collected from these conversations were given to song writers and 8 original songs were crafted to celebrate their life and work. The presbytery and conference structure in the United Church will be wound up on Dec 31 2018 and a new organizational structure will begin, collapsing these two levels of the church into regions. Congregations will assume more responsibility and decision-making authority in the new structure. It is my hope that congregations will discover new opportunities for mutuality and collaboration with each other and with other community partners as we enter this transitional time. Below is a video of my homily during opening worship on Saturday morning of the annual meeting, followed by a song for Shining Waters presbytery co-written by myself and Wendy MacLean.
